Vintner Vacation A Sweet Success

Jun 29, 2016

Ten lucky winners of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail’s Vintner Vacation spent the better portion of a week touring, tasting and traveling the Trail. Winners came from as far away as West Virginia for the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Winemakers and winery owners from Hosmer, Swedish Hill, Cayuga Ridge Estate, Buttonwood Grove, and Lucas Vineyards all gave the group tours of their facilities. At the end of the trip, each member remarked on how intriguing that each winery, although making similar products, has extremely different methods of vineyard maintenance, harvesting, production, bottling, etc.

The group had lunches at Knapp Winery’s Vineyard Restaurant, The Copper Oven, The Bistro at Thirsty Owl and Crystal Lake Café. On Day 3, they experienced Long Point Winery, Goose Watch Winery and Thirsty Owl Wine Co. all by boat. Captain Skip of Water to Wine Tours took us out tasting for the day – an experience unique to the wine region of the Finger Lakes.

Among the group were media personalities Vanessa Richards of Time Warner Cable and Matt Stevens of CNY Central TV. Vanessa hijacked the Trail’s twitter account and posted on our behalf while she was enjoying her vacation.

Vintner Vacationer Anita Vogely spoke of her experience on the trip and how the knowledge gained from the winemakers and property owners will help in her home winemaking operations.

The group’s overnights were provided by Hampton Inn – Seneca Falls, the Cabins at Buttonwood Grove Winery, Cayuga Lake Cabins and the newly renovated Taughannock Farms Inn.
